Manager Arsène Wenger has revealed that new recruit Andrey Arshavin was very eager to join Arsenal, and the Frenchman himself was determined to land the Russian international.
There have been rumours that the Arshavin transfer was forced upon Wenger but these latest reports contradict the rumours.
Arshavin has made an immediate impact on the club, notably scoring 4 goals against Liverpool at Anfield in a 4-4 draw.
Wenger said: "As soon as I met him I was convinced he was the right man for us.
"Andrei Arshavin came in and he had had no real preparation before we signed him, so we kept him in training for three weeks. In fact his first game was the goalless draw against Sunderland, but he was still getting fitter. After that he made a very quick impact.
"The 4-4 draw at Anfield was a massively spectacular game. It was a game in which we just got caught again in the last minute, but in fairness on the night, Liverpool didn't deserve to lose.
"They played at a top pace - it was a fantastic game. Andrei Arshavin got four goals at Anfield - four great goals. He showed what he is about, speed, finishing, character and personality. It was a great night for him."

the truth is that an influential defensive midfielder is urgently needed if we must overtake our rivals both in the epl and the ecl.

Andrey Arshavin if used as a stricker or behind strickers with a wide role, can make a big impact in Arsenal. But mr Wenger should buy one first class stricker as well. We have been singing this for the last three seasons. We should also note that first class players are very expensive, so given that due to limited resourses mr Wenger can only buy an additional one player, it is better he buys a stricker. Many of us fans believe that since the defensive issue has been addressed, the major remaining issue is the weaknesses in the stricking line. If you have been watching Arsenal play, you should agree with me that our team normally has better ball possession than most teams including the giant three, creates more scoring chances than most teams but wastes many chances. One can also argue that we have been conceeding too many unnecessary goals, true but this has been partly because some defenders have been overlapping in an attempt to score, hence creating loop holes in the defence. So please mr Wenger, get us atleast one first class stricker.

So wenger did not know Arsarvin is not going to listen to him. I know if he had known, he will not buy him because he knows how to play short and wenger doesn't belive in playing short. Well arsasin used that goals to arsarsinate liverpool's title hope . The goals are great. I wish l could see more of it from this great arsarsing next season. Up gunner!!!
