Adebayor: I'm only human, and it is alot of money

After sealing his controversial move to Manchester City, striker Emmanuel Adebayor said that he had moved to an ambitious club, one with serious investors and looking to finish in the top four.

Funnily, that ambition is slightly lower than Arsenal's, who have serious investors but want to win the Premiership, Champions League and FA Cup.

But, credit to him, the Togolese international also admitted that City were offering him a lot of cash, and it would have been stupid of him to turn it down.

Adebayor said: "I am here [at City] because it is the ambition of this club to be in the top four. We know it will be tough, but we have a squad that is capable of doing it.

"I know a lot of people will be saying, 'He went for the money'. But I would like to hear any man, if he is honest, say he would refuse it if he was earning £10 and someone offered him £30.

"We are all human beings who love what we do. I have signed a very good contract but now it is about what I am to achieve as a player.

"When City came in for me, they showed me they want this club to be one of the biggest in the world and that's when I thought, 'Why not'? Every footballer needs a challenge and I have a big challenge now.

"I played for Monaco and then for Arsenal for three-and-a-half years, but now I am at Manchester City and that is my focus.

"I cannot assure anyone I will score 30 goals, but I can assure people I will give my best for this club.

"Everyone here wants this club to be successful and I am here, along with the other players, to help them achieve it.

"We cannot guarantee it will happen in one year or two years – but we aim to do it as quickly as possible."

He scored 30 goals one season, a season when Arsenal were playing great, so any half decent striker could have reached that figure instead of Ade, and immediatly he compares himself to a legend like Henry, a man that has been doing it for years, helping to win titles and trophies, and he wants to get paid like him!....well he's lucky, because there are some silly people called Mn city who would pay...and pay us (reportedly) 25M..yes Twenty-Five Million pounds, to take the headcase off our books!. Great.

Gonzo here - City fan. Arsenal are an amazing club who have played the best football in the premiership for years. And what a bloomin stadium. Fantastic.

Its exciting to think we might have a chance of getting close to you, nevermind finishing above you. Adebayor is the sort of signing we need if we are to move as fast as the owners will want. Hughes is perhaps not proven at this level but he is no fool, and he knows full well he has to go for established players to give us a chance of reaching 5th this season and keeping his job for another year. I hope Wenger buys someone for the Viera role for you lot and you then proceed to stuff United in all competitions.

I have watched Arsenal gub us many times recently, my least favourite being a 4-1 defeat at Maine Road where you were 3-0 up inside ten minutes. I just hope those days are over.

See you in 2010-11 for a proper bunfight.

Gooner Neil you are SO nice! I bet you help old ladies acroos the street and give your seat up to pregnant women. The truth is he's tossed us around the last two summers and hidden behind his agent to get what his inflated ego thinks is his due. He's got it now, and good luck to him, but he needs to stop treating people like idiots with all this blatant spin. Cityblue, you're breathing and wasting precious air that would be better used by a decent human being, so do the decent thing.

I got so fed up with Adebayor last season that the people that sit around me at the emirates got fed up with me. Not for 1 second do I doubt he is a good striker, you cannot score 30 goals a season if you're rubbish. I also have no problem with Real or Barca coming in for our players.. they are bigger clubs than ours and if our players are being linked to them they must be playing well. What I didn't like was Adebayor demanding the pay rise he eventually got and then playing as a shadow of himself the previous season. This guy does not have the consistency that warrants the huge pay or the shirt of a top club. He will do fine for City but the amount of chances we create we need a player that can put them away regularly & also someone who understands the frickin off-side rule. Good luck to Adebayor - I will not miss him 1 bit but I also do not fear Man City. Mark Hughes is a poor manager and until they replace him there is no point in worrying about them. Sure they will be a force to reckon with at some point but any club that that decides to go that route has to end up being succesful. Purely because they pump billions more in than any1 else in order to achieve that goal. Arsenal will be just fine.. its City that need to do better than they ever have before.. not us.

Cityblue, why are u even on our site? why dont u just piss off to ur crappy mancity.com. u lot are just a wannabe chelsea which is just gonna fail for a few season until ur abu-dabi investors realise that your manage is awful. And you wont be able to replace him with a better manage because your owners dont know anythin about football.

Sorry but we got the the semis in both the Champions League and the F.A cup in the same season so i think we'll be able to contend.

Only Human eh? And to correct him. He actually played for Arsenal for one year and strode around like a preening ponce for the rest of the time.

Fair play to Ade. I've nothing against him whatsoever. He was a good player here and we made a good profit on him. I wish him all the best. Let's not lower ourselves to nonsense like sayig he's rubbish, or just a mercinary, because it's blatantly not true.

City will be strong next year, let's see how things pan out. They're a great club and i'd be happy to see them finish a point behind us, wherever that might be.

Pity for Arsenal that their investors are tightwods and that they won't be winning the Premier League any time soon, as for the Champions League well who are you trying to kid, Arsenal have no chance.

FA Cup is the best bet for Arse-nal fans.

Move over, city train coming through.

HAAAAAAAHHHHHHAAAAAAAA. THIS GUY THINKS TORRES IS OVERRATED.

please let him be. on his day he did well for us, when he scored 30 he surprised all of us, yet he was 2nd on our player of the season, when he scored 16 he depressed you, yet the 20 goal striker got the player os the season. well double standards all over. he did not win anything but he is our record sale, he is highest earner in England, aren't you proud of him? i know you say we could have got TORRES or a striker of that class; statistically, whats the difference over two seasons, for 25m pounds? i'd take my chance, buy another Adebayor for 3m than buy a 25m pounds over-rated striker and win nothing. pls let him be.
