It all comes out in the wash, Ade just wanted out

After sealing a lucrative but controversial move to Manchester City, striker Emmanuel Adebayor said he didn't really want to leave Arsenal, but his hand was forced by manager Arsène Wenger.

Saying that he never asked for a transfer, it's now been revealed that the Togolese international was being desperately flogged to Manchester United and Chelsea as well.

Perhaps the delay of signing for City was not down to a fear of how he was being perceived in Africa, but down to whether he could clinch a lastminute.com transfer elsewhere.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said: "At the last minute, I know Adebayor or his agent phoned us after he had agreed a deal with City - then he did the same to Chelsea.

"You ask why is he going to Manchester City and it can only be for one reason. He was desperate to get to Chelsea and us."

I'm sure being the highest paid player in England, playing for a club with ambition (heh) will soften the blow.

Vivas, intelligent response.. Im also looking forward to a more mobile attack with Arshavin, RvP and Bendtner and Eduardo.. Kinda like a JR version of Pires, Henry, Bergkamp and Llungberg in my opinion. I was left frustrated sooo many time at Ade slowing our attack just to take an extra touch.. and what the hell is he doing out on the flanks sending in crosses? 1. He wasn't good at it, 2. Who the hell was he crossing to? I don't care if we finish second, as long as we play hard and play with class. I can support that..

Seems like there is a new public enemy no.1 - Man City. Ferguson and Ancelotti both have now come out with negative comments either about the club or its players. Is it signs of nervousness about Man City? Who know?

Wenger sold Ade to his surprise and approaching ManU and Chelsea was a bid to stay with a top club, not a sign that he was desperate to get out. He's also supposed to have asked AW if he could stay after all.

I think his agents and posse turned his head with talk of Barcelona and Milan and deserving TH14's wages last summer. Remember most of the talk came from his agents while he was in Africa. The big problems are that he held his negotiations in public, let them mess with his head and that even at his 30 goal a season best he was also responsible for most of the frustrating moments of the season (at least those that didn't involve broken legs). It's kind of sad really, a bit like the Anelka saga. On the other hand he'll probably make more difference to a team that is not settled, he doesn't rely on or make the best use of the service available from our midfield. He didn't work that well with Arshavin for example while Bendtner did and I think Eduardo being clever and sharp will do wonderful things.

What I want to know is what AW will do with the money if Toure and Eboue go. (I'd rather they didn't but it wouldn't be a disaster)
