Vela scores for Mexico in Gold Cup final

Vela scores for Mexico in Gold Cup final

Striker Carlos Vela has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup after Mexico beat the United States 5-0 in the final.

It was goalless at half-time but from all accounts, Vela's introduction in the second half sparked some life into the Mexicans who then went on to score a devastating five goals without reply.

Vela scored one goal and provided two assists, an exciting contribution from the youngster who had only been on the pitch for a few minutes when he had an effort cleared off the line.

He had another shot saved before finally slotting home his goal, a delightful chip over the onrushing American keeper, and then turning provider with an exquisite through ball for team mate Castro to score.

Whilst Vela is still coming through the ranks at the club, it would seem that our little Mexican prodigy is ready for some first team action!

Why are all American fans always making excuses, the US defender pulled the gio kids shirt while in the box thats a PK and later on the same guy kicked gio in knee after he cut in while in the box and that PK was not called

Vela played great he used his speed to make US defender look like kids(which they are not most US team over 25) I hope to see much more first team minutes from vela this year

long live Arsenal, and long live England

It wasn't a mexican 'A' team either, the sub-17 world champs are starting to make some noise...The mexican defense suffered a lot in the early games where they had a bunch of youngsters except for 2 guys...Let's see what happens on August the 12th were both 'A' teams should be playing...

I was at this match and Vela made a very large difference when he came on the pitch. The Americans actually had a much better first half and only went down a goal due to a penalty that shouldn't have been. The Americans attacked after that and got caught.

I thought Vela played well, but the USA opposition wasn't very strong. It wasn't even a USA bench team, but more of a reserve team filled with players who aren't even superstars in the MLS.

It'll be more interesting to see how Vela does on August 12th when the USA 'A' teams plays against Mexico's 'A' team in WCQ.

I watched the game and it changed completely once Vela was introduced. The Mexicans ran all over the USA. I think that he has progressed greatly and an Arsenal lineup with Van Persie up top with Arsharvin as a trailer and Vela on the outside with Cesc in the Center and Rosisky on the other side would be devastating.
