Speaking after the match against Atletico Madrid today, manager Arsène Wenger said that he was happy with the squad but if there was a possibility of recruiting more players into the squad, then he would do so.
It would only be a maximum of two new recruits however, and he would be reviewing the available options this week. Arsenal fans are hoping that the boss at least has an experienced defensive midfielder on his list.
The Frenchman also commented on his team's difficult start to the season, with the Champions League qualifying rounds coming up and some tough away fixtures against two teams in Manchester.
Wenger said: "I will be looking at all the options we have during the week, and then we close [pre-season]. I believe we have quite a strong squad now. If we can add one or two players, we will do it, but not more.
"We want to prepare seriously, because we have a strong start to the season - we play Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United away in the first few weeks.
"We are cautious, but determined to do well. We are highly motivated and focused, which is a good basis."
Elsewhere, reports are coming in that defender Philippe Senderos has agreed to move to Everton, but these have so far been the usual "close reliable source" quotes. Whilst it does seem a possibility that Senderos will leave the club, we haven't heard anything official or reliable enough and will update the site when we do.

Shut up toure. What we need is 2 more CB not the expensive one and 1 DM and maybe Right back if Eboue go. Sell Senderos, Gallas and Silvestre and off course Eboue if the price is right. If we can get Chamakh with good price plus silvestre just do it.

I am starting to loose my trust in AW. Doesn't he understand that the squad of last year isn't strong enough to win the championsship. Now Adebayor and Toure are already sold. I think the departure of Adebayor is not that bad. Eduardo and Bendtner can fill the void. Besides whe have also VP, arshavin, walcott and Rosicky who can score goals. Th number one target has to be a DM. Denilson isn't a pure DM and Song isn't good enough. There have been speculations about Viera. Sure he's a legend but I doubt his physical condition because he's getting old. Th other target, Matuidi is probably a good, promising player but I don't think he's what we need. Wenger needs to use the money from Ade and Toure to buy a solid DM like Toulalan.
For the CB position Hnageland is very solid. He's a good defender, a leader, and fantastic in the air plus he has PL experience and he was part of the very strong Fullham-defense. I think the Vela-loan-deal could work.

I THINK HE IS LIKELY BRINGING IN A CENTRAL DEFENCE AND DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER BUT NOT A STRIKER CONSIDERING WHAT HE SAID AFTER THE MADRID MATCH BUT EXCEPT HE IS USING THAT FOR A MARKET PSYCHOLOGY.

i think the two players will be chamakh and matuidi, with viera coming along. i still think we look good on paper but throw in a few injuries in mid season and we will look weak again. i hope AW knows what is needed.

Wenger says he will assess the options after the weekend. If so then he must buy a quality central defender who likes to actually defend. We still look susceptible to the high ball into the box and we know that most PL sides use that against us almost exclusively. And we are still lightweight in CM. Denilsen has looked weak through the pre-season and his positional play is no more than average. Hangeland is a pure defender and would get his head on most things. I would love to see Huntelaar because getting fed by Arshavin, RVP and Cesc suggests to me a 25 goal tally for him. As for CM? Possibly Matuidi as he's box to box and more mobile than Denilsen. Patrick would be great but the PL season is gruelling and who knows if he could last?

The two players are most likely to be Matuidi and Chamakh. Those are the two we have been consistently linked with, and represent areas in wenger's mind that need strengthening. Chamakh to replace adebayor and matuidi is the makelele we have been missing.
He will point to vermaelen as the replacement for toure.
I think hangeland is highly unlikely. He is now cup tied in europe till the new year and what would have been the point of buying vermaelen if you were going to buy hangeland?

An attacking player is the last of the THREE players we need to make this team a serious contender to honours this season. First and foremost we need to get in an established defensive midfield player, in the mould of Toulalan or Veloso. Following this a commanding center back with good height to deal with our weakness in the air and dealing with free kicks and set pieces. I recommend getting 1) Toulalan 2) Hangeland 3) Huntelaar

Hangeland & Huntelaar should be the 2 players we buy with Vieira coming back on a pay as you play deal.
I agree with Wenger that we already have a stronger squad as the trouble maker adebayor has gone and Toure's feud with Gallas was very disruptive las year.
Added to that Rosicky and Eduardo are back and fit and the rest of the players are a year older and more expreienced.
We've got a good chance for a great season and with the above 3 players added it would be even better.

Blake- Let the other 2 be Matuidi and Bassong with Viera being a thrown in bonus!
However I think if he gets a striker it will more than likely be Chamkah rather Hunelaar.
He at last has acknowledge that we need at least a couple of players before we can seriously challenge for the title. My thoughts were that this was the case before we sold Ade & Toure!!!
