With all the hype surrounding young midfielder Jack Wilshere, goalkeeper Manuel Almunia says that it is now down to the 17-year-old to work and continue developing his game to succeed at club level.
Many Arsenal fans are calling for Wilshere to be fast-tracked into first team action but manager Arsène Wenger yesterday revealed that he had already done so by allowing Wilshere to train with the first team.
The Frenchman instead asked for calm and patience, and said that it was important that Wilshere be allowed to develop his natural game without the added pressure of hype and scrutiny from the media. Reports have been circulating calling for Wilshere to be included in the England squad for the 2010 World Cup!
Granted, it's a little bit difficult to ignore the fact that Wilshere has been voted Man of the Match in the two Emirates Cup games and scored two sublime goals against Scottish champions Rangers, but he is still a young talent and needs to be nursed gently into regular competitive action.
Almunia is confident that Wilshere will be given that time at Arsenal, and it is now up to him to realise his potential and undisputed talent. Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "Jack has all the talent to be great at Arsenal, but everything now depends on him."
