Midfielder Fran Merida has said that he is aiming to push into the Arsenal first team this season, and has enjoyed a good run in the first team during pre-season, having been restricted to mostly loan spells and Carling Cup appearances in his career at the North London club so far.
Merida shone in the weekend's match against Scottish Double-winners Rangers, providing the assist that helped striker Eduardo score the second goal of the match. The 19-year-old Catalan, speaking to Sky Sports News, said: "I don't know anything about my future right now.
"I am just training with the first team and I had the chance to play the Emirates Cup. In the next days we will see what is going on.
"It is fantastic, I have just got back to London last Friday and I did not expect it at all. It is good news and I really enjoyed it.
"I think a success would be to push up in the first team, get some more chances and progress. That is all I can do and I will try my best.
"All the time I have been here I have really enjoyed it because of the kind of football we play and the dressing room, the people around, everyone is nice, so all the time I have been here I have enjoyed it."

I believe that he has the potential to be as good as Favregas given the opportunities. He is a lot stronger than last season, passes the ball well, gets about the pitch and is not frightened to have a go at goal. Look forward to seeing him this season.

Like Wilshere, this guy is equally a very brilliant player. But unlike Wilshere, he's afraid to bring to the fore his immense potentials. It's good we have players like Merida, Ramsey & Wilshere in the team as we would cope nicely with life after Fabrigas. Though i don't expect them to get much playing time this season especially with the return of Rosicky & potentially Nasri. I expect them to further develop along side Vela in the Carling Cup games with a little appearances in the league.
