Sky Sports are reporting that ex-Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has decided to continue staying at Inter Milan, therefore ruling out a possible return to his former club.
The French midfielder was rumoured to have been contemplating returning to North London in a performance-related deal, and it was also an idea that manager Arsène Wenger was considering, despite his policy of not recruiting ex-players.
In recent days however, the rumour trail had gone quiet and in a press conference yesterday, Wenger hinted that he was no closer to signing anyone, not even his former captain.
The idea of Vieira returning to Arsenal in a player / mentor capacity excited many Arsenal fans. It was the perfect stop-gap solution to what many perceive to be a problem with experience and maturity in the centre of the pitch.
But it is understood the 33-year-old is to remain at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, ending speculation of a return to England's top fight.
