Captain Francesc Fabregas has urged Arsenal fans to not get carried away with the result at Everton and at the same time called on his team mates to keep the run going and not to rest on their laurels.
The Spaniard scored two great goals in the 6-1 demolition of the blue half of Merseyside, including one solo goal from the halfway line.
Central defenders William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen also got in on the act after Brazilian Denilson opened the scoring with a cracking shot from distance which flew into the top corner.
Brazilian Eduardo wrapped up the scoring, tucking away an audacious effort by Russian Andrey Arshavin that had rebounded off the far post.
Fabregas said: "It is just the first game in the title race, that's all. We must keep going like this.
"We want players who are committed and want to be together, and we want to win things together.
"We know we can do that if we continue to play like we did against Everton. But I must underline that it is just the first game. We won 6-1, but this is football, one day you are the best and two days later you are the worst team in the world.
"Let's keep it real, this is game one and there are 37 to go so we will talk at the end to see how we have done."
After the first game of the season, the Gunners now top the league table on goal difference (+5!), an underlining of intent after various media pundits had written off their title challenge earlier in the week. In contrast, title favourites Liverpool succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
