Manager Arsène Wenger wouldn't comment on whether striker Theo Walcott would recover in time for the match against Manchester United next weekend. The England international has not recovered from the niggling back injury suffered earlier in pre-season (and probably aggravated on England duty).
There were indications that Walcott would be available at the start of the season but has since missed the match against Celtic as well, and it doesn't look like he will be available for Portsmouth this weekend either.
Wenger said: "There is a slight concern but we believe it is a question of days and not of weeks.
"We will see [if he is fit to face United next Saturday]. It is always difficult to set a date.
"I thought he would be available for Celtic, I thought he would be available for Everton, but he wasn't. That's why we will be cautious."
In Walcott's absence (made even worse by the unavailability of both Samir Nasri and Tomas Rosicky), Nicklas Bendtner has been filling the right midfield role to some degree of success.
