According to BBC Sport, manager Arsène Wenger is to receive an apology from referee chief Keith Hackett following the Frenchman's dismissal in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United yesterday.
League Managers Association chief Richard Bevan has been told by Hackett that an apology would be issued.
Fourth official Lee Probert made referee Mike Dean aware that Wenger had kicked a water bottle in frustration during the dying minutes of the match after a goal from Robin van Persie had been disallowed.
However, there was nowhere for the Frenchman to go and he cut a ridiculous situation where he stood amongst several United supporters who were chanting abuse at him. He was then told that he could not remain there, and was told to find somewhere else to go.
Bevan said that Propert was to blame for not recognising the context of the situation saying: "I've spoken to Keith Hackett and he fully recognises the situation was an error and an apology will follow to Arsène Wenger.
"Probert totally failed to manage the situation and created a needless pressure point taking the focus away from the pitch in a big event with only a minute to go.
"Although correct in 'law', the decision was completely out of context in the game and it was followed by the nonsense which followed over where Arsène Wenger should sit."
