Transfers: Chamakh update, Senderos to Hull?

Transfers: Chamakh update, Senderos to Hull?

With just over 5 hours of the transfer window remaining, there has been no signs from the club that we're about to sign anyone. Rumours however, keep on coming.

Former Arsenal top scorer Ian Wright wants manager Arsène Wenger to sign a midfield terrier. Wright had previously wanted Wenger to re-sign former captain Patrick Vieira, but we have not heard any updates since. Wright is now saying that a good alternative would be Gattuso, but I'm pretty sure that Le Boss doesn't seek transfer advice from Wright.

Still, it's worth thinking about, eh?

The transfer rumour that won't go away is the one surrounding Marouane Chamakh. The Moroccan wants to come to Arsenal but Bordeaux are still haggling over the transfer fee. West Ham are also reportedly to be sniffing around.

This deal is probably dead as a Sky Sports News correspondent has just said that the update on the Chamakh situation was that Arsenal are an unlikely destination, and that one shouldn't rule out a move to West Ham. Even if it did go through at the last minute, do we need another striker?

The last remaining rumour as of now is Philippe Senderos. Several websites had previously announced that the Swiss international had signed for Everton, a bit confusing as it was later revealed that neither Arsenal nor Everton had agreed a transfer fee!

We are now hearing rumours that Senderos is looking to move to Hull City, after they sold Michael Turner to Sunderland for £12 million. Arsenal wanted considerably more from Everton for Senderos (due to the money they were receiving for Lescott), but perhaps Hull would be willing to meet our valuation of Senderos?

To be honest, it's looking unlikely that we'll be signing anyone but the silence from the club is telling. Perhaps everyone is hard at work trying to close that deal in order to submit the necessary paperwork to the Premier League by 5 PM today.

One thing is for certain, if we are signing someone, it's unlikely that it will be a player that needs a work permit. The Football Association had to be informed of all new work permit applications by yesterday afternoon. I'm sure we would have heard something if Arsenal had put through a work permit application to the Home Office.

And we can be certain that no players will be leaving for a European club. The transfer deadline for European transfers was yesterday, but this deadline was extended in the UK due to the August Bank Holiday. As a result, we can still bring players in from European clubs, but no one can now go the other way.

We'll keep you updated on transfers as we hear more.
