Striker Eduardo da Silva has been charged by UEFA for 'deceiving' the match referee by using simulation to gain an advantage in a match.
The Brazilian has been accused of 'diving' in the penalty area during the Champions League qualifying match against Celtic. Arsenal eventually won the tie 5-1 on aggregate.
UEFA's fax to Arsenal, detailing their charge, explains that Eduardo had "succeeded in deceiving the referee with an act of diving through the act of cheating as there was not the slightest interference with the player".
Arsenal are saying that it is impossible to prove Eduardo's intentions, and also said that the Brazilian did not appeal for a foul and has a good disciplinary record in Europe.
The Gunners believe that there is inconsistency in the application of Article 10 (1) (c), a rule which was introduced in 2006 but rarely implemented. The case is set to be decided on today based on the written submissions from both sides.
Eduardo will miss the matches against Standard Liege and Olympiakos. Arsenal have three working days to appeal against the decision by UEFA.
