With the third round of the Carling Cup fast approaching, manager Arsène Wenger has explained why he values a competition that many perceive as being last on the list of priorities for the Frenchman.
The Champions and Premier League being the bigger prizes, and the FA Cup being important due to its tradition, it's hard to argue with that order of prioritisation, but Wenger has said that the competition provides a level of exposure for his young players that would not be available in the other three competitions.
Wenger has used the competition to blood the fringe (but promising) players in his squad, and Arsenal fans can't wait to see the likes of Carlos Vela and Jack Wilshere in action.
The Frenchman said: "We have given out a few players on loan but we have a big squad and if you look at the number of players who did not play [against Celtic] then I believe we will have a competitive squad in the Carling Cup.
"Somebody in France told me that [against Celtic] our average age was 23.9 years old. If you look at the players who were on the pitch that night they all played in the Carling Cup - Bendtner, Song, Denilson, Fabregas even Clichy.
"They all started in the Carling Cup. That shows you how important it is to go through this stage."
Arsenal take on West Bromwich Albion at the Emirates on September 22.
