"You will more see games that the top sides lose." That's what Rafa Benitez said at his press conference before the weekend, and it has proved to be true so far this season and it is a reason not to worry after the loss to Manchester City.
Liverpool have lost twice, Manchester United once and Chelsea have yet to lose but have come within minutes of dropping points twice this season, so Arsenal having lost their second consecutive game in a tight, free flowing
game at the City of Manchester stadium should not worry just yet.
The games Arsenal have lost have been against two of the top teams, and this is where there are two different opinions on results against the top sides, some say like, Arsenal legend, Tony Adams that if you beat the bottom ten teams home and away, and obviosly take regular points against the rest, the title will follow. Others say the results against the big four will prove the difference between winning the title and finishing fourth or even out of the Champions League positions.
Last year, Manchester United won the title with Liverpool finishing second and only losing twice. Liverpool finished top of the top four versus top four table, Manchester United finished with just four points from fixtures against the top four. It shows that, while Arsenal have lost a second game against the top teams if they take the points they should against the relegation threatened sides, then the title is still within their grasp.
This season promises to be the most competitive title race ever, with Manchester City proving Mark Hughes spent his transfer fund well, Tottenham look to have improved under Harry Redknapp and Everton and Aston Villa still there or there-abouts, it means the top sides will take more points off of each other and even the Burnleys of the league have shown they will be no push-overs.
January could well prove to be the make or break month, the vital Christmas period would have just finished and the even more pivotal African Cup of Nations will be kicking off, this is where Man City will lose Adebayor and Touré, Chelsea will lose Drogba and Essien and Arsenal will lose Song and Eboue. Adebayor and Drogba have arguably been the stars of the Premier League so far and they will both be heavily missed, their absences could have a massive effect of the destination of the trophy come May. All of which means Liverpool and Arsenal shouldn't lose faith after their early season set backs.
