Manager Arsène Wenger has criticised Manchester City manager Mark Hughes, after he refused to condemn striker Emmanuel Adebayor's stamp on Robin van Persie.
Adebayor raked his boots into van Persie's face after the latter had tackled him and was lying on the ground.
The Togolese international received condemnation from the footballing world, especially as well for his goal celebration in front of Arsenal fans.
But Hughes defended the actions of his summer signing, saying that he'd been through a rough time in the summer.
Wenger said: "I watched it when I got home and it looked very bad. You ask 100 people, 99 will say it's very bad and the hundredth will be Mark Hughes.
"I was surprised there was so much animosity in his (Adebayor's) attitude towards Arsenal. In a few years I think he will realise just how good Arsenal were for him.
"I played football and I know exactly, in a fraction of a second, when you know your body well, where you leave your foot in or you pull out. You know exactly at that fraction, you can injure somebody or you cannot injure somebody and you ease off or you leave your foot in.
"In England, you have many cases where the players leave in, less now than ten years ago. I have seen some challenges from ten years ago where if you did that in the street, you go to jail.
"Of course we are disappointed because when you go to the head, you are always scared for people. You never know how it will affect the health of people.
"You want to be protected, whether it is Adebayor or anybody else, I think it was a very bad challenge, surprisingly bad."
It is expected that Adebayor will be banned for at least 3 to 4 games, after the Football Association officially charged him with violent and improper conduct.
