Philippe Senderos today revealed that he had always wanted to stay at Arsenal, contradicting reports that he had signed for Everton (when a transfer fee hadn't been agreed) and that he wanted to move for regular first team action.
The Swiss international's proposed transfer to Everton fell through when both clubs could not agree a transfer fee. Arsenal wanted substantially more for Senderos.
Several Arsenal blogs and news media reported that Senderos' transfer to Arsenal was a done deal, but Senderos is now still employed by the club he joined in 2003.
The 24-year-old admits that despite agreeing to a transfer, he never really wanted to leave the North London club.
Senderos said: "For a while the club and myself decided that maybe it was the best to separate but then in the end the best thing was for me to stay.
"Playing for Milan was a great experience for me, I've learned a lot and hopefully I can show it when I'm on the pitch.
"But I'm delighted to be back at Arsenal, it was always my goal to stay at the club and hopefully I can give my best for the team.
"I want to get back into the team and play as many games as possible.
"I think we have started the season pretty well with a very good win and then the last two games we've lost but hopefully we can get back into winning again.
"I hope this team comes back and I'm sure we've got the quality to do it."
