Vieira: Why I couldn't join Spurs

Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira has revealed that he could not join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer because of his ties with Arsenal.

Rumours were floating around in the August window linking Vieira to a move to the arch rivals of his former club, as well as reports linking him back to the Emirates in a pay-as-you-play deal.

And the French international was keen on playing in the Premier League again, but whilst Vieira was tempted by the offer from Spurs, the 33-year-old says that it was impossible to say yes to Spurs.

Vieira said: "I really wanted to come back to the Premier League and there was big interest from Tottenham.

"I have a deep respect for the manager there and he's someone I felt I could work with. I like his personality and everybody that I spoke to, who had worked with him in the past, said great things about him.

"But obviously being an ex-Arsenal player means it is not easy to go to a club like Tottenham. So, in the end, it was an impossibility for someone like me to join Spurs."
