Manager Arsène Wenger has praised Philippe Senderos after the central defender put his summer transfer saga behind him with a professional performance against West Bromwich Albion.
The Swiss international was thought to have joined Everton but reports about his departure were wide of the mark, as the two clubs were unable to agree on a fee.
Wenger says that Senderos is very much a part of his plans at the club, and is at the right age where he has the best years of his career ahead of him.
Wenger said: "We have four centre backs and he is one of the four because [Johan] Djourou is out for nearly the season.
"We know how good he is, but it is a new start, let's say. He is still very young for a centre back. He's 24 and he has the future in front of him.
"The best ten years are now coming for him. Philippe is an intelligent boy with a very good attitude and you don't ever question that."
Senderos had a good game against West Brom in the Carling Cup, and could have scored two goals in as many minutes at the start of the game, his headers just grazing the top of the cross bar.
It will be interesting to see if Senderos can now establish himself as the long-term partner to new signing Thomas Vermaelen. With William Gallas being 31, it makes sense to have the pair as the future of the defence.
