Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for three weeks with a thigh injury.
The Pole had only just returned from a serious injury and was surprisingly selected ahead of number one Manuel Almunia for the Carling Cup win over Liverpool.
There is currently a slight disturbance within the club on which goalkeeper is manager Arsène Wenger's first choice.
Almunia was unavailable with a chest infection but has since recovered, only to find himself on the substitute's bench as third choice keeper Vito Mannone has kept his place.
Fabianski, who himself returned from a serious injury, was selected ahead of Almunia. It is now unclear who will play in goal for Saturday's crunch match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Wenger confirmed the injury, saying: "We lost Lukasz Fabianski with a thigh injury.
"He will be out for three weeks. Of course it is big disappointment because he has just come back from injury."
