Van Persie, Vermaelen looking forward to key games

Striker Robin van Persie says that the team are now entering a crucial stage of the season, and he's looking forward to it.

Arsenal take on Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend, and on the face of it, it might not seem a key game but Manchester United and Chelsea play each other the same weekend. That makes the Wolves game a must-win game.

van Persie said: "It is a very crucial time for us now. Against Wolves, it is a must-win game for us, given that Chelsea and Man United are playing each other.

"After the break we have Sunderland away and then Chelsea, so it will be a tough month, but I am looking forward to it.

"We are looking sharp at the moment. We have one game in hand and are two points off Chelsea so if they lose points we will be in a good position.

"One of the top two will lose points this weekend, so if we want to challenge for the title we have to win."

The notion that Arsenal are currently brimming with confidence is seconded by Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen.

Following the 4-1 thrashing of AZ Alkmaar, the 'Verminator' says that qualification for the next round of the Champions League is within their grasp and that the team are really 'clicking' at the moment.

Vermaelen said: "We did not expect easy games but we played well and scored four goals.

"In the first game [against AZ] it was 1-1 and in the Champions League you don't expect easy games.

"But against AZ I think we played well. We scored four goals and that is important.

"I think we are confident if we play our own game. If we do, we can beat a lot of opponents but we have to do it in every game and that is the most difficult thing."

"We have 10 points now and that is a lot. We have two games still and we have almost qualified."

Manager Arsène Wenger echoed the sentiments of his two players, saying that he too is completely focused on earning three points against Wolves.

Wenger added: "I'm focused on us winning the [Wolves] game, after I take any result [at Stamford Bridge].

"For us you know that a successful season is to grab opportunities when you have them and we have a good opportunity to gain some ground on one of the two teams.

"That is what we will try to do."
