Striker Robin van Persie is reportedly facing a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a 'serious ankle injury' in last night's international match between Holland and Italy.
Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk told reporters that there was a real fear that the 26-year-old had torn the ligaments in his right ankle, and that might mean two to three months on the sidelines.
van Persie was stretchered off the pitch and has been flown to Holland undergo further tests.
These are unconfirmed reports and when we have further information we will post them on the site.
With Nicklas Bendtner out for a few weeks, it looks like an attacking trio of Andrey Arshavin, Eduardo and Theo Walcott might be the choice for the match against Chelsea later this month.
van Persie has been in sizzling form this season, being the club's second highest goalscorer. The news is disappointing when you consider the fact that he has suffered a long-term injury every season he's been with us.
Get well soon Robin, and let's hope the prognosis is not as bad as initially feared.
