Van Persie confirms recovery time, will try new treatment

Striker Robin van Persie has confirmed that he will be out of action for about four to six weeks as he recovers from partially ruptured ankle ligaments.

It is now certain that our leading striker will miss the crucial Premiership showdown with Chelsea later this month.

van Persie said: "The prognosis is that I will be out for four to six weeks."

The prognosis is better than previously feared, with Dutch football officials originally estimating that he had broken his ankle.

A KNV official said: "It's a serious injury. "We don't know how long it will take him to recover from it.

"It's impossible to put an exact timeframe on it because some players heal more quickly than others. It's not a short-term injury."

van Persie also says that he has been given the go-ahead to pursue radical medical treatment from Serbia which involves using human placenta.

The Dutch international said: "I will fly to the Balkans to meet with a female doctor who helped Danko Lazovic.

"She is vague about her methods but I know she massages you using fluid from a placenta.

"I'm going to try. It cannot hurt and if it helps, it helps. I've been in contact with Arsenal physiotherapists and they have let me do it."

Striker Eduardo da Silva is expected to step up and assume responsibilities as our spearhead in attack.
