Manager Arsène Wenger has blasted the Dutch Football Association over their handling of the Robin van Persie injury.
The Dutch international was injured on national duty and the initial diagnosis from the Dutch medical team stated that van Persie would be out for about 4-6 weeks.
A diagnosis by the Arsenal medical team however, confirmed that he would be out for 4-5 MONTHS.
Quite how the two teams managed to come up with completely varied diagnosis is beyond me. Nonetheless, Wenger criticised the Dutch team for their handling of the affair, and also took issue with the conduct of most national teams when it comes to looking after the players.
Wenger said: "I think the Dutch FA minimised the injury.
"We have just found out that it is much worse than what they told us. If a player gets injured with his country he should be sent back to his club straight away to be checked out by their doctors, not by those of the national team.
"Countries just take your player away for a friendly and then give him back and say, 'there you go'. It doesn't happen in any other sport. It's a joke and is so disrespectful."
The Frenchman also clarified the details of midfielder Alex Song's contract extension, confirming that the Cameroon international had indeed renewed till 2015, not 2014 as previously announced.
Wenger added: "I gave wrong information. It was not 2014 but 2015, he is staying even longer!"
"I would remind everybody that there was big question marks over Song for a long time. We worked patiently with him to make him a great player which is what I believe he is now.
"When you work as much as we do, you do not want to lose your best players."
