Manager Arsène Wenger has heaped praise on defender Mikael Silvestre, saying that the Frenchman is a respected figure in the Arsenal dressing room and a 'quiet' leader on the pitch.
Silvestre was captain for the side's Carling Cup match against Manchester City, and put in one of his more assured performances - though we still lost 3-0.
Many of us are questioning Wenger's reasons for signing the former Manchester United defender, but the boss is convinced that Silvestre brings a quiet assuredness and calm to the Arsenal dressing room.
Wenger said: "He doesn't get enough praise for his attitude and his quality.
"Silvestre's commitment to the cause was absolutely fantastic at Man City.
"People respect him highly in the dressing room. He's a quiet leader.
"He is a positive guy and helps the young players, but of course the best help is to win the games."
