Manager Arsène Wenger has delivered the news that most Arsenal fans did not want to hear - leading striker Robin van Persie could be out for the rest of the season.
It was originally diagnosed that van Persie could be out till April, but the worst case scenario is that the Dutch international is out of action for the rest of the season.
That scenario is pretty much what we predicted anyway, because there's also the small matter of getting fit after returning in April, which means he would be nice and fresh for the World Cup!
Wenger said: "If you are very positive you would say he'll be back in April. If you're a bit cautious you would say it will be May, it is virtually the rest of the season.
"When you have such a big surgery there is one thing that is important first of all, and that is the opinion of the surgeon, will he be the player he was before? We had a clear answer. 'Yes'," he said.
"The second thing that is very important in the first stage after surgery is has he an infection or not? He hasn't.
"The third thing is patience. At the moment he cannot do anything, he is just sitting at home waiting until he can work again. The first two steps have been very successful."
