Wenger: Anfield win was a turning point

Arsène Wenger is pleasantly surprised to see Arsenal firmly back in the title race.

Arsenal beat an in-form Aston Villa side 3-0 at the Emirates on Sunday and Wenger has praised his team's character this month.

"When you look where we were a few weeks ago, credit to the team, they didn't give up when everybody has written us off," he said after the game.

"We kept going and that shows the team has mental strength. Maybe the turning point was the second half at Liverpool when we won the game."

Wenger said after the loss to Chelsea that he expected them to drop points, and surprisingly to most, they have only won once since their victory at the Emirates.

"After the Chelsea game I said openly that Chelsea would drop points on the basis of what I had seen. And they did. But how many they would drop I didn't know.

"You have seen Birmingham against Chelsea. It is like that anywhere. You go anywhere it's not that you go there, turn up and take three points. That has gone."
