Key midfielder extends contract at the club

Versatile midfielder Abou Diaby has expressed his delight at extending his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, thought to be till at least 2014.

The Frenchman's previous deal, signed in January 2008, took him to the end of 2012. Diaby says that it is a sign of his commitment to the club.

He said: "This shows my long-term commitment to Arsenal and I am very happy here.

"I am so pleased to extend my contract.

"It's a great thing for me and hopefully there will be some good years ahead for me here."

Manager Arsène Wenger added: "Abou has a huge presence on the pitch and has the potential to be an influential part of Arsenal for many years."
