Thomas Vermaelen is the latest Arsenal player to jump to the defence of his goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
The Pole deputised in goal for the injured Manuel Almunia in Arsenal's Champions League defeat to Porto, and has been widely criticised for his part in both goals Arsenal conceded that night.
Vermaelen, however, believes the 'keeper was unlucky and that the rest of the team has to take responsibility for the result as well.
He said: "I thought the first goal was a cross that turned into a shot.
"It was not only him. You lose with 11 or you win with 11. That is how it is with us.
"In Porto we did not perform as a team. Now we have made it difficult for ourselves because we did not play well and we gave stupid goals away."
The defender believes that if Arsenal raise their game, they can overcome the 2-1 defecit at the Emirates and progress to the quarter-finals.
He said: "[The away goal] could be important. The tie is not over yet. Not at all.
"We have to win the home game and I am confident we will go through.
"We need that spirit again in the home match. I think that we have the quality to do that."
