Wenger feels guilty for asking players to be committed

Manager Arsène Wenger admits that he feels responsible and guilty for the horrific injury suffered by midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The Frenchman says that he asks for nothing short of 100 per cent commitment from his team, especially when they are fighting for the ball.

It is perhaps this fearless tackling of the ball that exposed Ramsey to the wild and reckless challenge from Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross.

Wenger said: "I encourage my players to play and be committed. I have a go at them when they don't put their foot in sometimes.

"But as well sometimes I nearly feel guilty to do that because when Aaron goes for the ball like he did on Saturday and gets done like he did, it is not an easy situation.

"But the way I try to play the game, I believe, is the right way. When we don't win, I get a lot of stick because of that way but I still prefer to continue to play like that.

"We will respect the game, the opponents and try to give pleasure to people who watch us."

Shawcross, ironically called up to the England squad and has a history of breaking other players' legs (e.g. Francis Jeffers), has since said he regrets the challenge, but from what I've read, has not apologised.
