Gunners legend worried by Walcott form

Former Arsenal hero Ian Wright is disappointed at the lack of progress being made by Theo Walcott.

The 20-year-old Arsenal winger has received bad reviews following a quiet performance for England last night in their win over Egypt.

With the World Cup coming up this summer, former striker Wright believes Walcott doesn't look capable of playing for England on current form.

He said: "I feel sorry for him. He's been at Arsenal a few years now and when you watched him yesterday it looked like he hasn't learned much about anything in respect of movement off the defender, receiving the ball and going past people.

"He just seems to like to get the ball and hammer at people without any thought."

Wright admitted, however, that the Arsenal youngster has had a tough time with injuries and would benefit from a regular run of games.

He continued: "I think the injuries and being in and out of the team is not helping him. There's a lot of pressure on Theo and I feel quite sorry for him because he did look a little like somebody who had been thrust into something and he hasn't really got the confidence to play it out."

Wright added that there is a lot of competition for Walcott's position on the wing, and his performance yesterday won't have done him any favours.

He said: "At the end of the day there are other people waiting and that's how it is at England level, they are ruthless. If you have a bad game then someone is ready to come and pick up the pieces."
