Manager Arsène Wenger praised the way in which his team put Portugese side Porto to the sword, and overturned their 2-1 deficit from the first leg "in style".
Historically, Arsenal had never overturned a first leg deficit in the Champions League, but perhaps playing the second leg at home made all the difference from previous ties.
A hat-trick from Nicklas Bendtner, criticised by various sections of the Emirates faithful on Saturday against Burnley, and goals from Samir Nasri and Emmanuel Eboue ensured Arsenal's progression to the next stage of the competition.
Wenger said: "We did what we like to do; we won with style and we were always going forward in a convincing way.
"They had one or two chances in the beginning of the second half and we were coming back from the dressing room not focused enough, but in the game we scored some great goals.
"If you look at history, the statistics were against us. But tonight just shows that historical statistics don't mean a lot if you have a good team on the pitch who believes they can win the game.
"I think the pace we put on gave Porto a problem tonight. And that maybe made a difference. When we play on a quick pitch, which we have here, and we can play our quick passing game, it is difficult for everybody."
