Arsène Wenger was pleased to see Arsenal grind out a win at Hull City today.
The Gunners took the lead through Andrey Arshavin, but after Jimmy Bullard equalised for Hull, had to wait until stoppage time for Nicklas Bendtner to find a winner.
The boss believes his side took their foot off the gas a little after taking an early lead, which gave Hull a mental advantage.
He said: "We started well, when we were 1-0 up we lost our focus and took it a bit too easy.
"When it was 1-1 I knew we had to battle because suddenly Hull's belief raised. We needed to fight until the last second and fortunately we got the late goal."
Hull midfielder George Boateng was sent off just before half-time for a wreckless challenge on Bacary Sagna.
Wenger has often been outspoken about teams being too rough with Arsenal and making dangerous challenges to disrupt their game, and although he believed Boateng deserved his red card, he can understand the commitment of the Hull players as they look to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
He said: "Unfortunately he deserved it but you can understand these challenges. If teams are fighting not to go out of the Premier League you understand that commitment."
