Samir Nasri still has a lot to offer Arsenal fans, and manager Arsène Wenger says that the 22-year-old should aim to be like another French midfielder who once graced the Highbury turf, but now plies his trade in Spain.
Robért Píres was often dubbed Wenger's chief lockpicker when he played for the club, and is still a favourite amongst the Emirates faithful.
The darting winger had a goal ratio of scoring in about one every three games, whilst Nasri has scored 4 goals in 26 competitive matches this season.
Wenger also believes that Nasri's future is on the wing, where he has the guile and technique to beat opposition full backs and provide support to the central attackers.
Wenger said: "Nasri is like Píres, I believe he is a hard worker, a good dribbler and a very interesting player because he has the combination of qualities that are quite exceptional. He has had a good season.
"Robert is a good target for him because if he can score the number of goals Píres scored then he will be an exceptional player.
"Nasri has played more in midfield because we lost Cesc Fabregas and he is the one who can play in this role. But I see Nasri in a wide role [in the future] because he has the tricks, the pace and don't forget that Fabregas plays in the central role."
