Defender Sol Campbell has admitted that whilst being able to play at the World Cup finals in South Africa would be nice, he's not losing any sleep should he not be chosen by England manager Fabio Capello.
Capello is due to announce a provisional squad of 30 for this summer's tournament and the Arsenal defender has been tipped for a shock return to the international scene after a stirring end to the season for us. Campbell rejoined Arsenal in the January transfer window in what has turned out to be an inspired signing by manager Arsène Wenger.
He has played in three previous World Cups and has won more trophies during his short time at Arsenal compared to the time he's spent at North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The 36-year-old said: "I'd love to go but I'm not really thinking about it too much because it's out of my hands. It is totally out of my hands.
"Whether people think I can do a job and fill in the gaps if there are any injuries, it's up to them.
"I've had a great season and people have seen me play. I've been playing regularly and that has definitely helped me. I've played more games than I was expected to play and it has helped me put my name back to where it is.
"If a call-up comes I will be honoured and I will go for it. But I am not going to count my chickens, I'm just going to work hard and go from there.
"If nothing happens I can still say to myself that I have given my all for the past five months at Arsenal."
There are many who are urging the manager to re-sign Campbell for next season, as it's been obvious that the title-winning experience by the former Invincible has proved invaluable at times. Whether that actually happens, we'll have to wait and see.
