Van Persie: I like being involved in the build-up play

How about some good news for a change? Striker Robin van Persie has reaffirmed his affection for the club, and says that he's enjoying playing for us at the moment.

The Dutchman sent out a message to his team mates last week, calling for them to be ready to put aside the pretty passes in order to win ugly.

Today, he says that he's not the kind of player who hangs around in the penalty area, waiting to score a tap-in.

van Persie said: "I love to play with the team. I love to come across [the opposing centre half] and give a one-touch pass back.

"Or when, for example, the centre backs pass the ball to me I love to give it straight away to Theo when he is on his run.

"I love to be involved with the game. I don't want to wait and sit and score a tap in. That is for me not good enough. Football is much more than that. In my opinion you help your team more with the way I like to play than when you are just sitting back.

"In a way it is unselfish but you will get chances because everyone sees that you play for the team. It always comes back to you.

"When you respect the game, the game respects you and your team respects you too so you will get the ball back."

van Persie is more than likely to be selected in the Netherlands' squad for the World Cup in South Africa in June.
