Ramsey signs new deal, Chamakh says best is yet to come

Defender Aaron Ramsey has signed a new long-term deal with the club, an official statement confirming yesterday. The 19-year-old is currently recovering from a double fracture suffered to his right leg in February.

The injury was the result of a reckless tackle by Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross. Ramsey, who would have been a certainty for the Welsh World Cup squad, has made 24 appearances and scored 4 goals last season.

On signing a new deal with the club, he said: "Every player wants to play in a team where they can play football and I feel that this is the way it should be played, so that's one of the reasons I signed a new contract.

"I think I can still develop my game a lot and I'm in the right place to do that with the support of the manager and also a squad of very talented players."

Ramsey is not expected to return to competitive action till the end of the year, ruling him out of the start of the new season in August.

Meanwhile, new signing Marouane Chamakh has said that his best is yet to come, as he looks forward to starting his career with the club.

The Moroccan international signed on a free transfer last week, concluding a year long transfer saga that began last season when Arsenal had a bid turned down by French club Bordeaux.

Chamakh said: "I still have room for improvement. I have not yet acquired all of my qualities needed to progress in another League.

"When a manager like Arsène Wenger is interested it gives you the motivation to improve."
