Walcott: I'm disappointed, but would like to wish the team well

Striker Theo Walcott, who hasn't been included in manager Fabio Capello's final 23-man squad for the World Cup, has said that although he's disappointed with the Italian's decision, he'd like to wish the England squad well.

The 21-year-old's season has been blighted by an injury ironically suffered during international duty, and has played the World Cup friendly matches under Capello, but has failed to make the final grade.

That leaves Rooney, Peter Crouch, Emile Heskey and Jermain Defoe as England's orthodox striking options.

Walcott's omission is being viewed in a positive light by many Arsenal fans, most saying that it will give the youngster a chance to recharge his batteries and be fit for next season.

Walcott said: "I am very disappointed not to be included in the squad going out to South Africa, but completely respect Mr Capello's decision.

"I would like to wish the team the best of luck and hope they have a really successful tournament."

The full England squad for South Africa are as follows:

Goalkeepers

Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green

Defenders

Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock

Midfielders

Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips

Strikers

Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney

England's campaign begins on 12th June with their Group C opener against USA before further encounters with Slovenia and Algeria.
