Campbell's off to Celtic / Cole signing put on hold

Sol Campbell has hinted today that he would favour a move to Celtic over staying at Arsenal.

From the sound of it, he has been told by Arsène Wenger that he won't get as many games next season, and wants to end his career with regular football. I would've liked to see big Sol stick around a little longer, but fair play to him for not wanting to sit on the bench. Fair play, also, to the boss, as this hopefully means he's told Sol he'll be bringing another defender (or two) in.

The 35-year-old is waiting for Celtic to resolve their managerial situation before making his decision.

On the possibility of a move, Campbell explained: "I'm just waiting for Celtic to settle the situation with Neil.

"When we last spoke, he was waiting to see if he was getting the job. I'd have to make a trip to Glasgow and have a look around, see what's happening. I will keep my options open. I'm not going to rush into anything."

The big rumour yesterday was that the signing of Joe Cole was imminent. 'Arry Redknapp was apparently keen on the player, but claims he won't get him, as he has already signed somewhere else.

With Cole jetting off to South Africa with the England squad last night, I imagine he would've been a bit too busy to finalise a deal with anyone, especially us with our traditionally slow negotiaton process.

I would've been quite keen on the signing, but if he has a good tournament for England we could face a lot of competition for his signature.

With his injury record, we shouldn't pin all our hopes on him anyway. He'd be a risky signing, but personally I feel he could add something in the way of experience and a winning mentality that Campbell did for us.

And a bigger squad can't hurt, can it?
