Van Persie continues hot scoring form for Holland

Striker Robin van Persie continued his excellent scoring form for Holland as the Dutch saw off Hungary in red hot fashion, romping home to a 6-1 victory at the Amsterdam ArenA.

van Persie, injured for much of the domestic season, scored the equaliser after the Dutch were caught napping for the opening goal in the first half.

The victory was however soured by an injury to Arjen Robben, who's World Cup participation is now in doubt.

van Persie also scored two well-taken goals in the Netherlands' 2-1 victory over fellow World Cup finalists Mexico.

The first half of that match was dominated by a slick passing Dutch side, who will have eyes on them as they make final preparations for South Africa.

The 26-year-old Arsenal forward praised fellow team mates Rafael van der Vaart and Ibrahim Afellay, who provided the defence splitting assists for him to take full advantage of against Mexico.

He said: "The assists of Van der Vaart and Afellay were both amazing.

"It wasn't too much of a problem to find the net after their great passes.

"This Dutch team really is of very high quality. We were quite impressive for the majority of the first half and we have shown what we're capable of.

"I've seen some very good attacks before the break. We were unable to keep up our good form after the interval, but that isn't too much of a problem.

"It was our first exhibition game so we are satisfied. We have trained very hard in the past couple of days and that showed in the second half."

Dutch coach Marco van Basten once described van Persie as the most talented Dutch footballer of his generation, praised the striker again when his team beat Mexico, saying: "van Persie was outstanding.

"In the second half he just felt the hamstring a bit so I took him off immediately.

"You saw after the break the strength of our whole team disappeared, but that is because we have trained so hard.

"We played very well in the first half and exposed them. In the second half we were outplayed, so that must get better."
