Bendtner: I should be fit in time for the World Cup

Striker Nicklas Bendtner is confident of regaining full match fitness in time for Denmark's opening World Cup game against the Netherlands on 14 June.

The Danish international has been struggling to recover from a troublesome groin injury, and has in recent days been training alone to regain match fitness.

Bendtner said: "I've been training hard with the physical trainer and I'm one of those with the best heart rate in the squad and the football side of things shouldn't be any problem."

There is some speculation that Danish coach Morten Olsen might take a gamble with Bendtner and play him against the Dutch, who are the favourites to top and progress from the group.

Olsen said: "We must decide whether to risk Bendtner in the first game. Should we bet everything? We have come a long way with him but the question is whether it is far enough."

But Olsen is confident that his side can spring one or two surprises, especially with the conditions in South Africa being different altitude-wise.

The Danish have been attempting to compensate for these as little as possible, conducting most, if not all, of their training in South Africa whilst the Dutch have only just recently arrived in the country.

Midfielder Martin Jorgensen added: "Holland haven't played here yet, so they may get something of a culture shock - unless of course they are so good technically that they don't need to hit a long ball."
