Arsenal striker Carlos Vela believes his Mexico team are in one of the toughest World Cup groups this year.
Vela and Mexico start the tournament today against hosts South Africa, before facing tricky games against France and Uruguay.
The young striker hasn't had much first-team football with Arsenal this season, but is hoping to shine for his national side this summer, in what will be his first World Cup.
He said: "For a lot of us, it's our first World Cup and so there will be a lot of nerves, which are still important for the game, but if we can control this and keep our emotions in check, we've got a chance. But playing in the opening game will be difficult.
"We have a difficult group because the first game is against the host nation and then comes France, one of the best teams in the world, and then Uruguay as well. These are three teams who we're going to have to work very hard to beat.
"But we've got a lot of confidence in our own ability and I think that we'll be up for the challenge."
Vela believes there will be added pressure on the team from playing in the competition's opening game against the host nation.
He added: "It will be very difficult. We're up against the host nation, the crowd will be against us, it's the opening game of the World Cup, everyone will be watching as it's the first game and so it's an important game of course."
