Eboue's World Cup hangs in the balance as Brazil win

Defender Emmanuel Eboue's World Cup hangs in the balance as the Ivory Coast lost 3-1 to an impressive Brazil last night.

The world number one ranked team took a 3-0 lead before complacency in defence allowed the Ivorians a glimmer of hope as Chelsea's Didier Drogba scored a consolation goal.

Although the Brazilians didn't play with as much flair as they traditionally do, former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva and Felipe Melo, also a rumoured Arsenal target, provided strong cover for their back four.

Eboue played 72 minutes before being withdrawn by coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, but despite having playmaker Kaka sent off for two yellow cards, Brazil never looked in trouble of taking home all three points.

The five time world champions have now qualified for the knockout stages, as the Ivory Coast face North Korea in their final Group G match.
