Lorient expects Koscielny to leave for Arsenal

French club Lorient FC have all but conceded that promising defender Laurent Koscielny will leave the club this summer to join Arsenal.

Koscielny recently admitted that he was desperate to join us and that he couldn't pass up an opportunity like this.

According to reports, manager Arsène Wenger has made an offer for the 24-year-old, expected to be in the region of €10 million.

Koscielny's move is currently subject to personal terms and a medical.

Lorient coach Christian Gourcuff, speaking to L'Equipe, said: "Laurent will leave.

"If Arsenal really want him, they will pay the right fee.

"To replace him we will do what we're used to doing - even if the transfer fee will not be re-invested on a new central defender."

Gourcuff has already begun to compensate for the loss of Koscielny with Arsenal youngster Francis Coquelin set to join Lorient on loan.

The France Under-19 international will have medical before putting pen to paper with Les Merlus, who resume training on Monday.

The two deals however, are not dependant on one another.

Koscielny's impending signing will bring some comfort to the fans who have been calling for Wenger to make strong defensive signings.
