Striker Nicklas Bendtner is on his way home from South Africa after Denmark were knocked out of the 2010 World Cup by outside favourites Japan.
The 22-year-old, despite being a doubt with a groin injury, played in the match but was unable to prevent his country from failing to reach the knockout stages of the competition.
The Japanese took a surprise 2-0 lead in the first half with two outstanding free kicks from Keisuke Honda and Yasuhito Endo.
The Danes managed to reduce the deficit late in the second half when they were awarded a soft penalty, which Dahl Tomasson scored from the rebound after his initial shot was saved.
But the Danes needed to win to ensure progression from the group stages, and thus still needed to score two more goals.
Japan were having none of that however, as they capitalised on the break with a well-worked goal, orchestrated by the impressive Honda, who squared unselfishly for Okazaki to tap-in.
The Far Eastern side finished second in Group E, behind group leaders the Netherlands. Denmark finished third having only won just one game the entire tournament.
It is the first time in their history that the Danes have failed to progress from the group stages of the World Cup.
