New squad numbers for the 2010/2011 season

Strikers Robin van Persie and Carlos Vela have requested, and been awarded, new squad numbers for the 2010/2011 season.

van Persie has taken the number 10 jersey off defender William Gallas, who has left the club.

The Dutchman will also now be inevitably be compared to fellow countryman Dennis Bergkamp, arguably Arsenal's best number 10.

There has also been a squad number change for Mexican Carlos Vela, who has been given the number 11. Vela originally had the number 12.

It's reported that van Persie has always wanted the number 10, but this was unavailable as manager Arsène Wenger wanted to give it to a defender so direct comparisons with Bergkamp could not be made.

I always thought that it was odd we had a number 10 in defence, but with our central defensive pairing now being a number 5 and number 6, and with a number 10 upfront, surely the this season is our time?
