Eduardo must never be forgotten

Departing striker Eduardo will forever hold a special place in the hearts of gooners after the tragic circumstances of his departure.

None of us can say we're truly that surprised to see him go, but it is sad news that simply must not be forgotten.

Personally, I would have given him another season, because he is truly a very talented striker. If not for his horrific injury at the hands of thug Martin Taylor, he would easily have been in the same league as the likes of Torres and Villa by now. I genuinely believe that.

I wish him the best of luck at Shakhtar, but I don't think it's unfair to say that that moment of aggressive stupidity from Taylor has basically ended Eduardo's career, or at least what it could have been. What did Taylor ultimately get for that? A three-match ban. Same for Ryan Shawcross, who broke Aarom Ramsey's leg in an equally disgusting fashion last season.

The punishments for these kinds of tackles needs to be MUCH harsher, or we will continue to lose talented footballers to pure thuggery. We have had Eduardo's talent essentially stolen away from us, and who knows how Ramsey will recover either. It is a horrible injustice.

Eduardo left the fans with a moving personal message on Arsenal.com.

He said: "The past few days have been very emotional for me. Although I am excited about the challenge ahead with my new club Shakhtar Donetsk, I am so sad to be leaving my home for the past three years - Arsenal Football Club.

"I would just like to thank everyone for your support during my time at Arsenal. When I first came to England, I could not speak the language and knew nobody, but as soon as I arrived I was made to feel at home and part of this big family. Also, I want to say thank you to the Arsenal supporters - you have been fantastic to me and always sung my name and I will never forget this.

"I had some very difficult times with my injury, but Arsenal was always there for me - the medical staff, the management, the players and the supporters. Thank you everybody.

"Although I have now left the Club, Arsenal will always be in my heart."
