Central defender Thomas Vermaelen have promised Arsenal fans that the squad will definitely be mounting a serious challenge for the title this season.
It is five coming on six years since we last won a major trophy, and despite last season's relatively sustained title challenge, many still feel that the squad have let them down.
With no sign of a senior goalkeeper replacing the much-maligned Manuel Almunia, and the squad being light on central defenders, there is less cause of optimism this season, many debating whether we actually have a stronger squad compared to last.
But the 'Verminator' assures the fans that we do, saying that him and his team mates will definitely challenge for the title.
Vermaelen said: "The spirit in the camp is good.
"We have a good young group who are very aggressive and want to improve. I think people will always say we can't compete - it is not the first time.
"But we have to do what we always do which is work hard and play our own game. Then we can compete.
"I hope we can compete for the title this year and I'm convinced we will."
