Most of you will probably have read the headline and thought it was aimed at Barcelona, a kind of hands off warning aimed at the Nou Camp and its annoying and arrogant inhabitants. It was however aimed at the people who, quite rightly, pulled me in the comments section for an error in my previous article which stated that Marouane Chamakh signed for us from Marseille, and not Bordeaux which is of course correct. My point being that essentially it doesn't matter a dam where he came from. The only thing that matters now is how good he is going to be for us and whether or not when he puts on an Arsenal shirt he can continue the relatively impressive champions league form he showed last season with Marseille. Only joking, Bordeaux.
Also if I remember correctly, a few weeks ago I advised anyone who reads this article that they should put a few quid on Fabregas playing with Arsenal next season. As the days go by it seems like a good investment, any day you get one over the bookies is a rare and good one. While we are on a betting note, if you have a betting exchange account i.e. Betfair etc. I would lay Phil Jagielka to be playing with the gunners when the transfer window closes. Wenger has already paid out for Koscielny and also has Djourou returning from injury. Allied to that (1) Everton won't sell him on the cheap (2) there are many other alternatives who are just as good but not as expensive and (3) it looks like Sol Campbell is going to hang around, I really can't see Wenger breaking his record transfer fee for a centre half who lets not forget failed to get past Michael Dawson or Matthew Upson on the plane to South Africa. In fact he wasn't even in the running.
Our next pre-season friendly is just around the corner and how I would love to see Theo Walcott take a leaf from Samir Nasri's book and put a big summer disappointment behind him. Samir looks like he is raring to go which of course shouldn't be a surprise. He could very well be in for a big season. This time last year he was cursed to break his leg, which impeded his entire season. It takes time to get through the gears and get to an elite level of sports, no matter how talented you may be.
Two others who could also be in for big seasons in terms of how their career progresses and with whom it progresses are Abou Diaby and Denilson. They are both in a similar boat in that they are both clearly talented. However they have both been at Arsenal for quite some time and neither can really say that they have progressed beyond squad player status. With the emergence of Jack Wilshere just around the corner and Craig Eastmond looking to build on his solid showings last season the time might be up for the double D's to show what they can do. There is only so much room for midfield might be's. Should Aaron Ramsey return to full fitness and full form by the end of the season then my money is on two summer sales to fund more purchases.
Finally, my former favourite Arsenal player has left to join Shakhtar Donetsk. Eduardo split opinion over the last few weeks and months as to whether or not he had a future at the club. It was hard to argue against either side. Would he fit into our new playing style, would he recoup his clinical finishing which got him firmly into our thoughts for future domination, would he ever be the same mentally in the rough and tumble of the Premier League. The answer to all of these we will never know. I for one however did hope that he would get a full season to play out before any judgement was made. When we are bombarding some team in a few months time, looking for someone to convert our chances I hope we don't look back and wonder why we sold arguably the best finisher the Emirates Stadium has seen. So long Eduardo and the very best of luck.
