Another classic quote from the boss himself, this time slamming the door shut in Barcelona's faces. It is his strongest statement yet that the club will not open transfer talks with the Spanish club for Cesc Fabregas.
If you believed many 'reputed' journalists, our captain would have been a Barcelona player by now. Instead, he still wears the armband, and his favourite number 4 shirt, for Arsenal.
Manager Arsène Wenger also revealed that he had spoken to his captain over the summer, but would not divulge what was said between them.
Speaking at yesterday's pre-tournament press conference, Wenger said: "I always said Cesc Fabregas will be our captain next year and that we want to keep him. Despite all the speculation last season and the whole summer, nothing has changed.
"We do not negotiate. If I want to buy your house and you don't want to sell, you don't negotiate with me, that's completely normal.
"I have spoken to him directly [over the summer]. But I believe it's important that meetings between me and the players remain secret.
"I never come out with the words I exchange with my players.
"He has always said he's committed to the club and he has always shown it. The best way to show you're committed is you give your best when you walk on the football pitch and he has always done that.
"Look at the length of his contract and you will see he has five or six years to go. When you sign a contract it means we are committed to a player to pay him and keep him no matter what happens.
"I believe Arsenal deserves respect. If (Barcelona) make some statements and jokes, we can do the same but I believe we have to live with that. We do not have to complain too much."
The Emirates Cup starts today, with Arsenal taking on Italian giants AC Milan.
